Integrating Cognition, Neuroscience, and Organizational Behavior

Dr. Seth Martinez, Founder & Director

We help organizations develop better leaders and teams by integrating adult cognition and learning with organizational behavior. Specifically, we (1) advance knowledge of leadership and teams through original social science research, and (2) design learning solutions to strengthen the organization’s internal leadership bench and team performance. We partner closely with organizations to collect data to develop models of optimal leader development, and then to further apply, test, and refine our models in different contexts.

  • Neuroscience & Cognition

We integrate neuroscience and cognitive psychology to inform the development of expertise.

  • Leader & Team Development

We examine the key developmental experiences and learning designs that most effectively optimize the development and/or improving the performance of leaders and teams.

  • Enterprise Learning Technology

We seek to research the entire learning technology ecosystem. This includes  knowledge management systems, learning management systems, social learning platforms, authoring tools, etc.

In the Learning Strategy Lab we research critical learning and performance challenges with a focus on leaders and teams, and partner with organizations to do so.

The lab is founded and directed by Dr. Seth Martinez, Assistant Professor, within the Organizational Performance and Workplace Learning (OPWL) Department. Our goals for research and practice are interdisciplinary, where, at its nexus are our deliverables, influenced by the convergence of several key disciplines — adult learning, expertise, leadership, systems thinking, and how each of these domains coalesce with the entire learning technology ecosystem.
